Stranded in Thought

I glanced skywards, as they passed, these metallic
aviators, soaring so close to seas of serene shores,
puzzled by which passengers boarded or planes from
whence they passed over, as I knew their destination being near

Did the fare holders downwards stare, inquisitive of from
whence I came, or impending journey onwards, across
scattered shells and pebbled sands, or did they gaze laterally,
longing for landing, on solid soil, the earth’s surface welcoming them

Was it known to these visitors, how hours spent, I,
entertaining notions of far distant lands, glaring upwards,
heavenly, imagining myself, aflight as avian creatures fluttering,
flapping wings, soaring in cerise skies, in navigating migrational winds

How in sorrow, seated on nautical strands, I summoned,
idealistic endeavours, pausing them one by one, as if pieces,
of puzzles I will never find, or possibly forever lost, in youth,
and my saddened eyes revert away, searching situations to qualm this ache
